Good-Bye, SOLDIER! Farewell to a Champion |
In the constant comings and goings of life, there are those extraordinary moments and experiences that touch our hearts deeply and leave traces that stay with us for a long time. For Helmut von Finck and Gestüt Park Wiedingen, SOLDIER HOLLOW was one such experience, and so we would like to pay tribute to our star and bid him farewell with a few final words here. SOLDIER HOLLOW fell asleep at Gestüt Auenquelle in the early hours of May 6th at the age of 24. The In The Wings-son was a three-time champion of German sires, who recorded great successes as a racehorse and, as a top sire, left an unforgettable mark on German thoroughbred breeding and horse racing over the past decade. Bred at Car Colston Hall, SOLDIER HOLLOW impressed during his active career, where he was met by challenges, with his tireless fighting spirit and an extraordinary will. He later passed these traints on to his offspring, earning him great appreciation from breeders, owners and horse racing fans alike. SOLDIER HOLLOW passed on an exceptional willingness to perform to his offspring, who shone with precociousness, versatility and speed. In addition to their top-class performances, SOLDIER HOLLOW offspring have also touched the hearts of racing fans, as can be seen from the examples of Mockingjay and Western Soldier. To date, SOLDIER HOLLOW has produced 30 individual Group winners, including 5 Gr.1 winners with Pastorius, Ivanhowe, Dschingis Secret, Weltstar and Serienholde, and 64 Black Type winners. These figures are likely to increase in the coming few years. SOLDIER HOLLOW's influence on German thoroughbred breeding cannot be overestimated and his influence as a sire of broodmares will probably only be fully realized in the coming years. With Schnell Meister (Serienholde), our Derby winner SAMMARCO (Saloon Sold), Nepal (Nassau), Kassada (Kasalla) and Wilko (Whispering Angel), SOLDIER HOLLOW has already group winners through his female offspring. The legacy of the Sire of Sires is carried on by his sons, above all Ivanhowe, Dschingis Secret and Weltstar, who are stationed in France, as well as our home bred Derby runner-up, DESTINO, in whom we place high hopes. In a very nice interview with Aisling Crowe for the British Racing Post, Helmut von Finck said of the three-time champion: „He did everything right for me in his life and did everything so well, and I think it was his time; he had achieved everything and lived a good, long life, and I was very lucky to have him in my life. I'm grateful for Soldier Hollow, I'm sad he's not here anymore, but he's in my heart and always will be.“ „He was my hero, he was my life, he was my passion, he was everything to me. He was the perfect horse. And he wasn't just a horse, he was a friend and something very special to me.“ We bid him farewell with great sadness and gratitude! Good-bye, SOLDIER HOLLOW! |
