The Derby hopefuls met today at Baden-Baden in the €55,000 Gr.3 Derby Trial for a final assessment before the highlight of the year, including WILKO, who is a Park Wiedingen-bred racing in the colours of Stall Helena.
The Henk Grewe-trained colt ran the expected strong race under Leon Wolff and almost looked like the winner in the final straight. In the last furlong, he perhaps had to pay tribute to the heavy ground and was caught by Augustus, who is also among the favorites for the Derby and could honor his recently passed sire SOLDIER HOLLOW, by half a length. Finishing third was New Emerald, who is out of a SOLDIER HOLLOW mare as well and who perfected the result for the In The Wings son.
