Pastorius wins Prix Ganay |
German Derby winner Pastorius had a more than perfect start into the new racing season! The Solider Hollow son, who is trained by Mario Hofer in Krefeld and owned by racing stable Stall Antanando, romped home under Olivier Peslier in the first Group 1 race of the European stakes season, the Grix Ganay (2100m, 300.000 Euro), and beat the favored Maxios (Monsun) and Dunaden. Pastorious’s half-brother Point Blank, ridden by the trainer’s daughter Steffi Hofer, was called to duty as the pacemaker, a task the pair fulfilled beautifully, as Peslier was able to ask the four-year-old for the final attack two-furlongs out after a perfect trip in third place. Maxios, ridden by Stepahne Pasquier and trained by Jonathan Peese, however, prove to be a tough opponent, as he had already passed Pastorius in the stretch. But Peslier and Pastorius fought back and, in the end, Pastorius drew away easily and had a one-length advantage at the finish line. “We are very happy. Everything went perfect for us. This was a Group 1 with a deep field – now, we will enter him for the Arc,” a naturally excited Mario Hofer explained to the journalists of the French racing channel, Equida.
