Following in the footsteps of Pastorius, Ars Nova, and Ivanhowe, Christian Zschache’s Dabbitse came to an exciting victory at Hamburg racetrack today. After a brilliant ride by German jockey Andreas Helfenbein, the four-year-old colt claimed the Hamburger Fliegerpreis, a Group three sprint-event over 1200 meters, in a thrilling finish.
Racing off the pace, Helfenbein took Dabbitse wide into the stretch from where the 130:10 long shot seemed to be growing wings, as he flew by the field in a flurry and beat Smooth Operator by a nose on the wire. Dabbitse is out of the Lando mare Djidda and was bred by the German stud farm Gestüt Ebbesloh. |
