The now five-year-old SOLDIER HOLLOW daughter VIRGINIA JOY scored her first Group win in the $150,000 The Very One Stakes (2200m) at Gulfstream Park today, giving her sire his 26th group win and 98th Stakes point.
Transferred to the U.S. as the top seller of the 2020 Arc Sale, the Auenquelle-bred mare had most recently been given a good six months' break, which has obviously done her a world of good. Today, the Chad Brown-trained VIRGINA JOY presented herself under top jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. in high spirits and left no doubt about her ability. Entering the final straight, Ortiz shook the reigns once and the mare drew clear easily for a length advantage at the finish post.
