What a great year for Soldier Hollow! After Pastorius’s win in the Prix Ganay and Ars Nova’s victory in the Diana trial, the list of graded winners for our young stallion saw another prominent addition: Ivanhowe. Today, the colt cruised to a comfortable two-length victory in the most important Derby prep-race, the Oppenheim Union (2200 m), at Cologne racetrack.
After breaking his maiden in convincing manner four weeks ago at the same track and over the same distance, Ivanhowe had gained the handicappers’ trust and entered the Oppenheim Union as the 28:10 favorite. Jockey Adrie de Vries rode the Schlenderhan owned Ivanhowe with great trust, giving him a relaxed trip along the rails in the back of the field and asking him to run about two furlongs into the stretch. The brown colt drew away from the field with ease without ever being seriously challenged. This victory makes Ivanhowe the clear favorite for the German Derby held next month at Hamburg racetrack. We are curious to see whether Ivanhowe can follow in Pastorius’s footsteps.
Ivanhowe is out of the Sternkönig mare Indigo Girl who was third in the Preis der Diana (German Oaks).
