Soldier Hollow success story continued: jumping continents
Today, four-year-old Salon Soldier opened a new chapter in the record books of his sire. With Jim Cassidy aboard, the handsome bay colt by Soldier Hollow won a high-prized 1600 m handicap over the turf of Randwick racetrack in Australia in easy fashion.

Salon Soldier is a product of the German stud farm Gestüt Wittekindshof’s breeding operation. Out of the Group-placed Bluebird (USA)-mare Salonblue (IRE), he was offered at the BBAG Yearling Sales 2010 and went for €36,000 to his new owners Stall Hornoldendorf for whom he placed 7th in the Sparda 143. Deutsches Derby (Gr. 1) in 2012. With a series of promising Group-level placings under his belt, Salon Soldier was acquired by Australian Bloodstock earlier this year and left trainer Peter Schiergen’s stable in June to start the next leg of his career with Newcastle-based trainer Kris Lees. Salon Soldier has made quite impression on his new trainer since taking up work with him. Prior to his start in today’s Myer Spring Fashion Benchmark 90 Handicap, Lees announced high expectations for the German-bred galloper on his stable’s website calling him “… a lovely horse” and attesting him “… the presence, the swagger, of a good horse …” Salon Soldier certainly did not disappoint, and we are eager to see where Kris Lees will take him from here!
