Salon Soldier triumphs at Melbourne Cup day
He had shown great promise with his Listed-win last month, and he certainly didn’t disappoint his followers when he entered an A$151,500 Listed-race as the 28:10 favorite no less than an hour after the 2013 Melbourne Cup.

Salon Soldier broke well under jockey Jim Cassidy, who insisted on saving every bit of ground, as the pair kept hugging the rail in prominent position throughout the race. Entering the long stretch of Flemington Park, the Soldier Hollow-son developed a compelling speed and was ahead by two lengths when hitting the wire after 1800 m. In doing so, Salon Soldier beat Midsummer Sun (GB) and the experienced Gr.3-winner, Mull of Killough (IRE), in yet another promising performance for trainer Kris Lees and owner-syndicate Australian Bloodstock.
