Wai Key Star wears No. 1 in Derby
Wiedingen-bred Wai Key Star will enter the starting gate for the 147th running of the German Derby in two weeks as the highest rated three-year-old in the country. Stall Salzburg’s Soldier Hollow-colt was given a GAG of 96, which puts him slightly above the highly anticipated favorite and Christian Sprengel-trained Boscaccio in the ranking. According to chief handicapper Harald Siemen, the yardstick responsible for a direct comparison was with the Roettgen-colt El Loco. At least indirectly, since El Loco was runner-up to both Boscaccio and Wai Key Star, whereas the Soldier Hollow-son’s victory in the Ittlingen Derby-Trial (Gr. 3) looked a tad more confident than Boscaccio’s win in last week’s Oppenheim-Union (Gr. 3).

We are incredibly proud to see three colts by Soldier Hollow (Wai Key Star, Dschingis Secret and Parthenius—two of them bred at Park Wiedingen) among the top five nominations for this year’s German Derby:

Wai Key Star GAG 96 ~ RPR 118
Boscaccio GAG 95.5 ~ RPR 117.5
El Loco GAG 94.5 ~ RPR 116
Dschingis Secret GAG 94 ~ RPR 115.5
Parthenius GAG 94 ~ RPR 115.5

We joyfully anticipate the 147th running of the German Derby!
