SOLDIER HOLLOW festival with WELTSTAR & DESTINO in G1 German Derby
Today's 149th edition of Germany's most important race, the prestigeous G1 German Derby (€650,000) turned out to be a fantastic festival for our champion sire SOLDIER HOLLOW. In a finish that could hardly be surpassed in tension, 10,000 spectators at Hamburg's racecourse saw a re-run of the G2 Union-Rennen, which was held three weeks ago in Cologne.

Like then, WELTSTAR racing in the colors of Gestüt Röttgen had an advantage over DESTINO, the full brother of the 2017 Horse Of The Year DSCHINGIS SECRET.

Both SOLDIER HOLLOW-colts ran a race off the pace along the inner rail and were taken to an outer lane by their respective jockeys Adrie de Vries and Martin Seidl once the field hit entered the home stretch for a final run. The pair quickly drew clear from the rest of the field with just a few jumps and delivered a goose bumps finish to wire. For a moment it even looked as if Destino had his head in front, but Weltstar put up a great fight and reached the post after 2400 m with a neck advantage.

To have sired both the winner and runner-up of the German Derby is a tremendous success for our champion SOLDIER HOLLOW, yet to have a home-bred product of our stud farm finish second in this race makes us incredibly proud! We are grateful to trainer Markus Klug and his team, who also is responsible for Weltstar's tremendous success. What a fabulous, amazing day for our our stud!
