Season greetings from the heath: Third championship
As every year we would like to extend our season greetings from the Lueneburger Heide and, as has already become a tradition, look back at the past twelve months in a short review.

Light and shadow are often close together in all areas of life, and sometimes even in our sport. Thus, in August, we had to say goodbye with very heavy hearts to our beloved stallion Flamingo Fantasy. The offspring of the Fantastic Light-son had just begun to draw special attention to the striking chestnut in the months before his transition.

At the same time, we were very happy to see that with the great fighter Devastar and the runner-up of the German Derby Destino, two of our home-breds have found their way into the breeding career. While Devastar will cover in the French Haras du Mazet, four-year-old Destino will take up stud duty at Westerberg Stud and continue the bloodline of his sire SOLDIER HOLLOW in Germany.

The latter sired 86 winners in 2019, among them eight Black Type winners and of course Saldier's noteworthy G1 success in Great Britain. All in all, the offspring of our outstanding sire Soldier Hollow shone once again this year at the highest performance level, with the triple arrival of Axana, Shalona and Madita in the G3 Hamburger Stutenpreis certainly being one of the highlights. The fact that Soldier Hollow enjoys an increasing reputation even beyond German borders was not only illustrated by an article published in the International Thoroughbred in September, which was almost a logical consequence of the impressive performances of his daughters Pelligrina and Nuala, which attracted attention in France. Both fillies are in training with champion trainer Andre Fabre, who does not spare praise for the offspring of our champion.

Another progeny of our champion who drew attention was Mockingjay, who has found his place in the racing calendar 2020 as the unbeaten Handicapper of the Year. There, the five-year-old with the heartwarming story finds himself in great company with the stakes-winning stars of German racing.

Mockingjay's six victories contributed to the 73 wins and a total prize money of €798,395, which secured Soldier Hollow the third championship of Leading Sires in Germany after 2016 and 2018.

We look back on a successful year 2019 with gratitude and wish our trainers and staff at the stud farm and in the racing stables, as well as all breeders and fans of thoroughbred racing a blessed holiday season and a great start into a healthy and joyful year 2020.
