Our fighter WESTERN SOLDIER, who was voted Handicapper of the Year last year with six wins at the highest handicap level, topped last year at Düsseldorf today and achieved his first group placing with a terrific run in the €55,000 Kalkmann-Frühjahrs-Meile. The now five-year-old SOLDIER HOLLOW son missed the victory in the highly competitive Gr.3 challenge only by a nose.
After a very good trip, WESTERN SOLDIER engaged in a thrilling duel, from which he emerged after 1600 meters only one nose down. Michael Abik was in the saddle for trainer Peter Schiergen, who presented the gelding in strong form after a five-and-a-half-month break. |
