Prepared by Peter Schiergen for owner syndicate Liberty Racing 2021, three-year-old WINNING SPIRIT traveled to Rome today to partake in the 140th running of the Premio Derby Italiano (€640,000), where the colt delivered a thrilling performance. Ridden by Sibylle Vogt, WINNING SPIRIT settled mid field in the Gr.2 contest which was run over 2,200 metres and took to task on the soft going in the long straight. The colt showed plenty of vigor in the last furlong and defended his place of honor one and a half lengths behind the winner.
WINNING SPIRIT, sired by our three-time Champion Sire SOLDIER HOLLOW, is a pure Park Wiedinger product and was bred by us out of the Shirocco mare WAMIKA, who is responsible for the Champion2YO WHISPERING ANGEL and the Gr.3-placed WANGARI and WESTERN SOLDIER, among others.
